LUCY WATERHOUSE

Lucy Waterhouse, youngest born into a London classically musical family felt destined to be a violinist from her earliest memories. Although she seemed to start her studies quite sensibly (music degree at Cambridge University) she took an early opportunity to escape by doing a post-grad at Indiana University in USA where she headed for the Grand Canyon as soon as school was out, and was then off to the Arctic North of Norway, immediately for her first job. Here she almost became a viking, learning to ski, fish in the midnight sun, climb in the mountains, and narrowly escaped marrying an eskimo. (Ask her Dad about the 500-strong reindeer dowry he was to inherit.....)

After exhausting her musical possibilities in Norway - including a stint in the Opera and Oslo Philharmonic - Lucy came home to London where she free-lances in London's orchestras mostly in the Philharmonia. However, she returns for frequent skiing holidays!

In 2000 Lucy formed Tango Volcano, her own band, after learning to play and dance the tango in Argentina during a 6-week long field trip funded by the Churchill Fellowship. An ambitious friend of her sister's, Bob Edwards thinks he can capture Lucy in celluloid and a TV documentary is being made currently, entitled "Lucy W". Her other hobbies include Triathlon, pottery and wine-making.

KRISTINA KUUSISTO

We still don't know which it was that brought Kristina to Paris - her husband or her love for the bandoneon - but we do know that it is now Tango Volcano that brings her to London. After studying the classical accordion at the Helsinki's Sibelius Academy in Finland, she found herself in France specialising in the bandonéon and argentinian tango with Juan José Mosalini. She currently performs as solist and in various ensembles - parisian ensembles of contemporary music such as 2e2m, S;i.c, Ars Nova, Arcema and also with different tango orchestras. Amongst these are Tango Elan and of course, Tango Volcano. She and guitarist Rui Martin have an exciting and experimental duo. She has participated in several recordings for CDs and film music. Her finnish career isn't finished yet: in the past year she has starred on the soundtrack on "The Man Without A Past" by Aki Kaurismaki, performed Piazzolla 's bandoneon concerto in Helsinki and given birth of her first child.

ROGER DAVISON

Roger Davison has spent more hours performing panto than this entire audience has had hot breakfasts! He has emerged from the gloom to become the musical rock of Tango Volcano (although every December he vanishes again for three months). He trained at Guildhall School of Music and now works as a freelance pianist and musical director in London's West End. He has worked with some extraordinary characters including Barbara Windsor and Norman Wisdom and has a wealth of stories to prove it. He is currently working in the musicals Grease and Chicago. Roger dabbles in exotic horticulture and lives with an aggressive cat and its thyroid problems.

NIGEL WOODHOUSE

At age 14 Nigel Woodhouse abandoned the trombone in favour of the electric guitar (to give his lips a rest). After his teenage years spent playing in rock bands, his interests widened to encompass classical guitar and mandolin. He is now an active freelance musician working with all the main London orchestras. He has played on many recordings for film and TV including the recent Harry Potter movie. He has worked with a diverse range of musical personalities from Eartha Kitt to Placido Domingo. His love of South American music has led him to be thrown in at the deep end as the newest member of Tango Volcano. His two children aged 4 and 1 perpetuate his condition of sleep deprivation.

LUCY HARE

Lucy, born in Norfolk, was educated at CCAT in Cambridge and Trinity College of Music before going out into the world as a freelance double bass player. Her musical tastes have always been eclectic, working with a wide variety of groups ranging from the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Vanessa Mae to special needs schools and prisons around the country. She has been involved in pioneering work with such groups as the Oxford Concert Party (Europe's only baroque and tango orchestra), Beverly Davison's Hot Strings and the New London Orchestra. She also records music for films and TV and works in London's West End. She is an obsessive tango dancer and was by no means new to the genre when she joined Tango Volcano. She is a passionate traveller, taking her last summer holiday in Greenland! Her current ambition is to learn to do a handstand unaided!
