Tango Volcano is a London-based tango quintet launched in 2001. For four years the band has wowed festival audiences throughout the country (Cheltenham, Bath, Norwich, Buxton, Lichfield, Aldeburgh) and gigged in central London venues (ICA, Bloomsbury Theatre, Union Chapel, Blackheath Halls) as well as recorded their highly-praised first album "Catching Fire". This vibrant and virtuosic quintet plays traditional tangos from the golden era, explosive music by the famous and infamous Astor Piazzolla and a selection of dynamic and funky tangos from the UK written especially for them, which led the BBC World Service to make a feature programme on the and in 2003. Now recognised as being at the cutting edge of the UK tango scene, Tango Volcano has recently been collaborating with Andrew Lloyd Webber over his rethinking of the '70's musical, "Evita".
The quintet brings together the experience and passion of some of London's top professional musicians with the specialised sound of the bandoneon - the heart-rending voice of the tango.
"you probably won't hear tangos better played anywhere." The London Times
